Navy Chaplain
If you are considering becoming a navy chaplain, there are several requirements that are needed to enlist as a navy chaplain. According to the Navy’s website, here are the necessary requirements:
1. Must have Ecclesiastical endorsement
2. Two years of religious leadership
3. US Citizenship
4. Bachelor’s degree
5. Graduate degree to include 72 semester hours from an accredited institution
6. No less than 36 hours in theological/ministry and related studies
7. Active Duty chaplains: Commissioned prior to age 42, Commissioned and on active duty before age 44. Reserve Chaplains: Commissioned and on active duty prior to age 40.
8. Pass military commissioning physical
9. Pass a security background investigation
10. Ability to work in the Department of Defense (DOD) directed religious accommodation environment.
If you do not meet all of the requirements, you can apply for the Chaplain Candidate Program Officer program. You must be at least 21 years old, and you must be qualified for active duty or reserve officer prior to your 39th birthday. You must also receive a letter of approval from a recognized religious faith group, have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, and be part of a program of professional study in theology. You must also maintain a satisfactory full time standing of the graduate theological school in which enrolled an in any training program prescribed by their religious faith group.
